About

What is the Creative Edge Problem Solving Challenge?

Teams of 4 to 8 students are required to solve open-ended challenges in one of the following disciplines and present their most creative solution at their local Regional Final:

  • Literature and Communication
  • Science Engineering
  • Society and Environment

Teams are required to work together on the challenge of their choosing for up to six weeks without assistance from anyone outside the team. They are encouraged to explore possibilities and experiment with a range of ideas as they work towards their best possible solution.

In addition, teams are given an “Impromptu Creativity Challenge” on the day of their Regional Final.

Participants develop both critical and creative thinking skills and are encouraged to experiment with original ways to communicate their challenge solution to an audience.

Teams may be comprised of students in the same year group or a combination of year groups.

Students and facilitators receive an Instruction Manual to give them a step-by-step guide and an overview of the program.

Who can be involved?

Anyone interested in problem solving, creativity, collaboration, innovation and fun!

Teams of 4 to 8 members may be entered in the following divisions:

  • Division I – Years 3 to 6
  • Division II – Years 7 to 10
  • Division III – Years 11 and 12

The program is designed so it can be run as a class or year-group academic extension or enrichment opportunity for teachers wanting new material to develop critical and creative thinking skills in their students.

Schools may enter as many teams as they like.
